Thomas J. Martin - Born in New Bedford,  Massachusetts.  Relocated to Maine in 1979 looking for a simpler way of life.  My wife and I, and dog Emma, live in Bridgton, Maine which is a small rural town situated in the foot-hills at the edge of the White Mountain National Forest.   We've found the life-style change that we were looking for here in Maine.

Photography has been a passion of mine since I was a young man.   I've always had a love of nature and the outdoors,  and the camera allows me the opportunity to have a much more intimate relationship with the natural world.  Photography has given me a gift  -- the ability to see things from a different perspective.    I believe that opportunities for discovery and creativity are found by looking closely at the details.   The beauty of macro photography is the ability to see the details in life that you would otherwise ignore.  

I consider myself a serious amateur photographer -- self-taught.   I'm a Canon camera enthusiast who enjoys photographing landscapes and street scenes.   However, it is doing close-up(macro) photography, particularly images of flowers,  that gives me the greatest satisfaction.   My camera is a Canon Rebel XSi digital SLR.   And, most of my close-up work is done using a Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens.    My images are taken with a hand-held camera using available light whenever possible.      

A goal of mine as a photographer is to create images that not only provide a unique prospective, but that also communicate feelings and emotions.  I hope that you enjoy the images you see here in my portfolio.
